Kenwood TS2000 WSJTX

WSJT / Ham Radio Delux / Digimode-4 / Kenwood TS2000 (X)

At the time of wrining this i couldn’t find anything online with simple step by step information on how to get the above to work so I put this together, I hope it helps someone out or at least saves some time and money.

Digimode-4 from xggcomms

Great little soundcard & CAT control pre wired and ready to go £66 (19/06/2025) quality is good and communication from Steve G8XGG is excellent who was more than happy to help me with some settings. This was purchased to run on my Kenwood TS2000X and run HRD (Ham Radio Delux) rig control, HRD logbook & WSJT.

Radio settings:

Menu 50A off

Menu 50B 4

Menu 50C 4

Menu 50D 4

Menu 50E set to MAIN

Menu 50F set to 1200bps

Menu 55 set packet to off

Menu 56 set to 9600bps

Keep the audio TX audio equalizer to OFF , having tried different settings i found this the most reliable

WSJT settings as in the screen dumps, also note the slider on the right of the main screen WSJT (not shown) indicates ‘power’ but is actually audio level, I found having the computer sound sliders turned up to full then bring the ‘power’ slider (WSJT) down until the radio is matching it’s set output power into a meter with minimal ALC showing.

Make sure that the usb soundcard and usb mic are correctly selected in the audio section in WSJT.

HRD

Remember to set up DM780 ! Or you will likely have no audio when WSJT goes into TX cycle or Tune, settings as per screen dumps.

Finally the rig control connection settings in HRD assuming you have already opened your device manager and checked your serial port for the comport number, mine was COM7 , full instructions are given on the xggcomms website for the initial connection/drivers for the Digimode-4 which was very straight forward, remember the radio and HRD need to be the same baud rate.

** 60m band (5Mhz)** Full licence holders only, 100w transmitter 200w eirp

The recognised FT8 frequency and mode is 5.357 MHz USB remember to stay below 1000Hz tx frequency as the UK limit is set to 5.358 adding the 1000Hz + to your 5.357 means you will be transmitting out of bands and in contravention of you licence conditions.

>Tick the ‘hold tx freq’ button and set yours below 980Hz
>Don’t reply to a CQ above 980Hz if your ‘hold tx freq’ button isn’t highlighted

I’ve tried to keep it as simple as possible and deliberately not gone into details that you probably don’t want to know or are really not interested in.

The support from Steve at xggcomms is excellent and what Amateur Radio should be like.

There are many versions of wsjt-x but my choice is one modified by DG2YCB Uwe Risse
Band selection buttons, toggle between dark mode and light are just a few
of the visual improvements plus other core upgrades.
