I entered this world in 1968
Like a lot of amateurs in my age bracket I was first interested in CB Radio and for me influenced from the film Convoy.
In 2012 and a chance encounter with someone I used to ‘knock’ about with and I learnt that the old RAE had gone and was replaced with Foundation, Intermediate and Full licences, with half an idea about radio I took the foundation in June 2012 with the VARC (Verulam amateur radio club) at an event in Bedfordshire, I passed and hand on heart I was more excited about that than when I passed the Full, took the Intermediate in March 2014 (passed) then took the Full in May 2014 and passed.
You would think that having gone to the trouble to gain three licences I would be active on the radio but like the saying goes ‘never meet your heroes’ and after a brief foray in 2014 to 2016 amateur radio went on the back burner. Fast forward to 2024 and I was diagnosed with cancer, my priorities changed, work took second place to my hobbies and family.
Writing this the cup is most definitely half full not half empty, im enjoying a rather late mid life crisis lol.
